HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM - GRANDMA - & GREAT GRANDMA

Today Liz & I went to Salina to help Mom celebrate her 86th birthday. We took food for lunch and brought Dad up to her room so we could all be together. We sang Happy Birthday to her and had a fun time.

My day did not really start so good because as I was carrying the picnic basket out the front door, I managed to stumble and fall and the basket went down as well. Fortunately, the food all stayed in the basket and no dishes were broken. However, I feel like I've been hit by a truck tonight with a stiff neck and sore muscles.

I hope Mom enjoyed the day as much as we did helping her to celebrate.

OFF TO ECUADOR

The Ecuador ministry team left from the Wichita airport this morning. Rog arrived at the airport at 5:00 a.m. and joined the rest of the group. They flew to Houston and will be there until late this afternoon. At 5:00 p.m., they will board their plane for Ecuador and will arrive in Ecuador around 11:00 p.m. if all goes according to schedule.

The elder's prayed for Rog last Sunday evening and then he shared about his schedule and what he would be sharing with the people in Ecuador. He was able to get his material translated into Spanish so that should be helpful.

Most of the pictures are taken in the Wichita airport and they are taking luggage to the missionary family as well so that is a bunch of luggage. I will update as I hear more from them.

ALL THE FAMILY & GREAT WOLF LODGE

We had a great weekend(Oct. 8-10) with all our children and all our grandkids. The Great Wolf Lodge is a very nice facility with a water park, an arcade, nice restaurant, and story time in the lobby with the animals coming alive around the clock. We had our rooms right together so when all the kids went to bed, the adults congregated in Mom & Dad's room to socialize.

The kids spent most of the time in the water park and since Melanie and I are not fond of water, we stayed with some of the little ones so the other parents could enjoy themselves. However, Rog & June talked me into going down one of the slides and I actually went down 3 times so at least I was a good sport.

On Monday night, we went to a restaurant to have dinner and also celebrated the birthdays of the grandkids born in October. Malia Veer was 4 yrs old(3rd), Ethan Seaba was 1 year old(11th), Micah was 6 yrs. old(12th), and Trevin will be 7 yrs. on the 23rd. The waitress was very kind and brought 20 balloons as well as desserts for the birthday kids.

There was a room at the end of our hall where the kids could do crafts, play bingo, and other fun things. There was a staff member to help them so they loved to be there when that room was open.

Since we came home, several(about half) of the family have gotten sick so I don't know if that will blur the memories or not. We had a really great time and always look forward to getting together with the family.

ECUADOR MINISTRY TEAM

For the last several weeks, we have been going to Wichita one night a week so that the Ecuador team can make plans for their time in Ecuador. They have shared their testimonies, prayed, and studied the Scriptures together. It has been a great bonding time and we pray that the Lord will use them to honor His work in Ecuador.

Dave Oldham is on the left and is the pastor of an Evangelical Free Church in Wichita. Steve & Roxane Turner are members of his church and are excited about sharing Christ. Flavio is the man on the right and has been a pastor for 40 years and only speaks Spanish so he brings a member of his family to interpret for him. I wept as I heard Flavio's testimony last night. He is a man of God and has been through rough waters. I'm sure God will use each one for His glory.

Rog shared his testimony as well and for some who haven't heard, I will share a little of it. At the age of 6-8, he would listen to the Gospel being preached on HCJB (coming out of Quito, Ecuador) on a shortwave radio that they had in their home. They were not attending a Gospel preaching church so he was anxious to hear all he could. The actual people speaking were coming from Back to the Bible in Lincoln, Nebraska, which was only a couple of hours from where he lived but he was hearing it all the way from Quito, Ecuador. He also had been inspired by Jim Elliott's life and Ecuador is where Jim ministered and gave his life for the Gospel. Dave just invited Rog to go with them to Ecuador and share some material he has written and had no idea what a meaningful experience this would be for him. We sense God's leading and He has abundantly supplied for the trip. I will share more when they return.
