MOM CELEBRATES 89th BIRTHDAY

Today is Mom's 89th birthday. She has been living with us for nearly 3 years now and we are so glad that she is here with us. We decided we would celebrate this big day all week so Monday morning Rog went to get the beautiful roses that we knew Dad would want her to have so she could enjoy them all week. Then Monday night we took her to Olive Garden to enjoy lasagna which is one of her favorites. Today we fixed sweet and sour chicken over rice which is another of her favorites and a friend baked her an oatmeal cake for lunch. She has received calls and cards so her day today has been special. We love you Mom and hope you have a very good day and we are so glad to have you with us.

THE KC HALF MARATHON

We are ready to do a half marathon together on this cool 40 degree morning. It was raining as we drove in the early morning to get there and we were hoping we would not have to run in the rain.

Our four daughters are the greatest girls in the world and were of much encouragement to me in my first half marathon. When we arrived at the location for the race, they got out of the car and had written "GO MOM" with black marker on the backs of their legs.

Below you can see the back of our shirts. The girls had written, "Our Moms 1st 13.1" and mine read, "I'm the MOM". We received a lot of cheering from lots of people as they ran past us or with us. That was fun.

Below is a picture of us at 2.5 miles where we were getting warm enough that we were going to throw our jackets to Rog.

My grandkids were there to run in their own race and surprised me with some signs to cheer me, their aunts/mommies on. I love my wonderful grandkids too.

We are approaching the finish line

Hand in hand we crossed the finish line - 3 hrs. 3 min.
not a record finishing time but not bad for how bad I was hurting

We finished and were all pretty beat.

We each received our medals and had fun running together even though it was hard for Mom.

OUR CREW AND THE NEW ROOF

The finished roof looks really nice

Eli worked up on the roof with the men most of the day - he loves to help

Matthew holding a washtub so they can throw torn off shingles in it

everyone was snarfing down pizza and enjoying the break

even grandma Tucker got in on the fun at the table above

the guys hit the hot tub to help the aches and pains - they really don't look to miserable

We were supposed to start tearing off the old shingles and begin putting new shingles on Thursday but as most know, it was raining so the work was delayed until Friday. Our son John and sons-in-law Phil, Johnny, Damon, and Greg came for the weekend to do the work for us. It was a cold weekend and we were a day short but they were able to get it done. We had to call in some extra help to tear off and are grateful for the willingness of the Garrett men and Nick Staib to come and help. Of course a few grandchildren helped as well. We appreciate our kids and all they do to help and especially on this roof project. Thanks guys!

The cousins have so much fun together that they are never ready to go home. Micah is getting ready to open presents in the picture above and getting ready to eat ice cream and cake in the one below. Micah is very quiet but such a sweet young man. We love you Micah and hope you have a really great birthday.

ETHAN CELEBRATES HIS 4TH BIRTHDAY

Ethan Seaba is celebrating his 4th birthday today. I had the privilege of having him in church with me today because his Dad was in on the roofing project at our house for the last 2 days. Ethan is such a sweet boy and loves to help his mommy and has a great time with his cousins. It was fun to have him here for the weekend and I got to sing Happy Birthday to him in person instead of on the phone. We love you Ethan and hope you have a very special birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

A NEW ROOF AND GOOD HELP

We intended to start working on our roof on Thursday but what was forecasted several days ago as 40% chance of rain turned into 70% chance and it rained off and on a good part of the day Thursday.
Our son John and our sons-in-law(Damon, Phil, Greg, & Johnny) are now(Friday) working on roofing our home and hoping to beat the chance of nasty weather on Saturday afternoon. They have 2 layers of shingles to tear off and then the new ones to put on. And yes, Rog is up there working right with them as well as several of our grandsons. Eli(5 yrs.) was up there most of the day and believe it or not, he did help a lot. Of course great grandma is keeping her shades pulled in case anyone comes flying off the roof - it all makes her a little nervous.

This morning they delivered the shingles and even used a conveyor belt to get them up on the roof , since we needed to save all the man power we could.

They are hoping to get done tomorrow but we will have to wait and see. Everyone is sleeping soundly already tonight so I'm sure they were all exhausted.
We appreciate that our kids are so willing to help and pray that everyone stays safe throughout the process.
