I love the blog that Elisa made for Avery's birthday and could not believe how much she looked like Raegan when she was little.

I love this picture of the two girls and think they are both very pretty but today is Avery's day. Avery is 11 years old today and celebrated by taking brownies to school. Sounds like you have lots of friends Avery, and I know your cousins love spending time with you.

Our brother-in-law Don has his 78th birthday today. Don has served in the maintenance area of RGBI for many years. He is always ready to help anyone with a mechanical problem and is good at it. We are blessed to have Don in the family and trust God will bless him with many more birthdays!

MARY ON THE RUN

This is Roger, posting Mary's birthday blog a little late. She had her 68th birthday on December 7th. Though Mary is older in years, she really stays youthful. We had a goal of walking and running 1000 miles in 2011. Guess what, Mary is over 1200 miles. We have had a lot of fun doing this together. She is a great lover of her grandchildren and goes out of the way to spoil them. I am sure they will never forget her. She is pictured here with her youngest grandchild, Alivia. She loves to spend time in "Gramma's Perch" with the grandchildren. We built the tree house with the money we collected off the street during our 1000 miles. I love Mary, I love her spirit and am forever grateful that God brought us together.

WEEKEND IN MEMPHIS

Last Thursday we left Hutchinson for Kansas City(Overland Park) and spent the evening and night with Phil & Julie and their children. The next morning we left their house to go pick up Elisa in Olathe at 5:45 a.m. When we had Elisa, we headed for Gardner to meet June and her friends and left from there to head for Memphis, Tennessee, where Rog and I were going to run a 5K and then cheer our daughters, June & Elisa, on in their marathon race(26.2 miles). It was a nice day to travel and by 3:00 p.m. or so we were in Memphis. We checked into our motel and shortly headed out to the expo where we were to pick up our packets for the race. It was a very busy place and over the loud speaker they announced that someone had lost a $100 dollar bill and if anyone saw it, would they please turn it in. No chance of keeping that one:) We picked up our packets and wandered around among the hundreds of people in there for quite a while and then headed out to find something to eat.

We needed a few things at the grocery store that was right by our motel so we parked at the motel and walked to the store. We also saw a place(small) called Luchessi's that had pasta and sandwiches so since pasta is a good thing before a race, we decided to try it. I understand it was delicious but since I was(am) on a diet, I could only take their word for it. Part of the girls were not with us so we called to see what they were doing and they said all the restaurants had an hour or two wait so I encouraged them to come on over and I would try to talk the people into staying open longer so they could eat there too. They were supposed to close at 8 p.m. and the girls got there at 8:03 but they made it in. They were glad we had let them know.

Then we went back to the motel to rest up for the big race day. Elisa had run a marathon 15 years ago with her sister Julie so this would be her second one. June was going to be running her first marathon in celebration of her 40th birthday and it didn't really look too promising for June to finish since she had a broken bone in one foot and had dropped an RV refrigerator door on her other foot so her feet were hurting. But June has a lot of determination(wonder where she got that)and she was going to try to do it.

Rog & I began our race at 7:15 a.m. and the girls would not start until 8:00 so we thought we could see them off. We found the 3 mile point but waited a long time for them to get to that marker and then we moved on. Since this was going to take a while, we went back to the car to warm up and thought maybe we would go back to the motel and change clothes. As we drove around after leaving the parking garage, we soon got locked up in traffic and runners going by so we couldn't move. Then one of the girls called and said that June needed a Tylenol - could we bring one - I said I would try. I tend to want to help when reality says we can't go anywhere. We couldn't move for some time but finally we saw Elisa coming again so I jumped out and tried to get a picture and cheer for her - failed on the picture - don't have any idea who the guy was on my camera. I jumped back into the car and we went and parked in another parking garage and decided to walk and see if we could find June. It was probably about mile 8 or 9 when we saw Elisa and we wandered clear to the finish line and started backtracking to find June. She was beyond needing Tylenol by this time but I was still determined to get it to her. At mile 23 or 24 we met Elisa again and Rog said, why don't you run with her for a while so I did. I handed him my jacket & phone and off we went. She needed encouragement - she just wanted to lay down and maybe even cry. I prayed for her and then she thanked me and told me to go back and meet June so I turned around and headed back to meet up with Rog and June. I walked over a mile and started thinking maybe he turned and went some other way but I had no way to get ahold of him since he had my phone so I went out in the street at the next corner and asked a police officer if he could call a number for me. He dialed it and handed it to me and when Rog answered I asked if he had kept going and he said yes, so I hung up and kept walking toward June. About a mile later I saw them and June was walking but doing a good pace so that we almost had to run to keep up with her so I decided she wasn't near as pathetic as I thought and seemed in good spirits.

As we were walking and trying to keep up, I started having problems breathing(like when you have asthma) and it seemed to be getting worse so I sat down and told Rog to go on but he wasn't going to leave me. A med person working at the race asked what our problem was and we said I was out of energy and having trouble breathing so he wanted to give me sugar(which on my diet I'm not suppose to have) and I said no, I'll be alright. He left a couple big sugar tablets and some pretzels and went on his way. I tried to walk again but it started happening again so I told Rog to go get the car and come back and pick me up. No, he was not going to leave since it would take him an hour to get to the car. About this time an SUV drove by and turned around to ask if we were ok. I just asked them if they could take us to the finish line and after saying they couldn't but they would call someone and I said no, I want you to (cause I didn't want them sending an ambulance). They started moving some things in their packed car and said there was room for one of us and Rog said, I'll hold her on my lap. No place for feet either - It was a sight because I had to roll in a ball to fit in on his lap. When they drove past June(about a mile later), we hollered to her that I was done and we would see her at the finish line. She had already heard that something was going wrong for her Mom. She just laughed and later told us there was something wrong with that picture - that we were coming to encourage her and had to have a ride in and she was still running. We got out at the stadium where the finish line was and waited for the girls to come in.

Elisa had already come in with a 4:48 time and June came in around 6 hrs. They were exhausted of course and so was I but we sure had fun cheering them on. We were all glad that the day was over and racing was done and we could relax.

Our youngest child has his 32nd birthday today. Our oldest son, Roger, waited through four sisters for a brother. At last we had another son, and he was thrilled. John has been a joy to our family. John loves sports and has ended up playing sports often with his older brother. John is such a considerate son and a good husband and father. We love you, John, and trust you have a wonderful birthday.

MOM CELEBRATES NINETY-ONE YEARS

Today Mom is celebrating her 91st birthday. Five years ago we brought my parents to Hutchinson to live with us. This has provided a unique opportunity to be with them in this stage of their lives. Dad went to heaven in 2009. Mom continues to live with us and we are grateful she can be close to family in these days.

She is still walking most every day and tries to get some exercises done each day. Recently she has gotten back into reading books - she loves reading and has plenty of time now to enjoy it. She attends church with us and even gets on her computer to keep up with the latest activites on facebook:)

Our dear little Alivia is one year old today. That year has gone by quickly. The smile you see in the picture below is there most of the time. She is one happy little sweetheart. Today is Rog's birthday and he is 69 years young. I'm so thankful that he prayed for his wife long before he met me and that he found me. I am so thankful for his life and his walk with the Lord.

We went away for a couple of days and were able to see most of our grandkids. We love our grandkids so much and value the time we can spend with them. Of course we love their moms and dads as well.

God has been so good to us and today I am reminded to thank Him again as I do every day for his faithfulness and for the wonderful husband He has given me.

THE TREE HOUSE - GRAMMA'S PERCH

I know my grandchildren will be excited about this because I am excited about it. Yesterday grandpa told me that he had decided that my street money should be used for "gramma's perch". That is what he calls the tree house. For those of you that might have questions about the street money, we have challenged our children and grandchildren to run/walk 1000 miles this year and while we do our walking/running, we pick up any street money we see. So far that has amounted to almost $300. It is simply amazing how much is out there.

So we are using that money for this special project for our grandchildren. We had a very large pine tree that died in our back yard so we had to have it taken out but left a large part of it for a tree house. So far they have mounted the floor on top of the tree. Now we need some enclosure. You can see from at least one of the pictures that it is up in the air a ways. Overlooks the back yard.

Today Susan is 35 years old. I don't think she looks a day over 25 but I'm her mom. We really enjoy having Susan & Greg and their family so close.

Susan keeps very busy working nights as an ob tech at the hospital and works several days for a doctor. She also keeps very busy with their 4 children.

I caught a picture of her going down the zipline at camp gramma 2011 a couple of weeks ago.

She seems like she has a no ending amount of energy and we appreciate her willingness to help us with many things. We love you Susan and hope you have a great day.

JULY MILES - NOT FAR TO GO!

July is gone and my miles are on the calendar - 935. Sorry I was a little slow in reporting. We were in Colorado the end of July and the beginning of August. I still managed to keep doing some walking here and there. I am excited that I will soon reach my goal of 1000 miles walking/running and I will probably keep on walking/running the rest of the year just to see how many I can possibly do. It is fun - I do enjoy the exercise and it has been very good for me. I'm also enjoying watching to see how all my grandchildren are doing as well as some of my children. God has kept Rog & I healthy for which we are very thankful.

I finished walking/running in June with 821.5 miles. I really enjoy the exercise and I guess if all goes well, I should finish my goal of 1000 miles for this year much earlier than December. Rog & I do most of it together so we consider it quality time that we can spend together and it is good for our health.

EXERCISE IN MAY

The months are flying by and we continue to walk/run almost every day. We had to give it up a couple of days for our cousin reunion but it was worth it. I'm at 677 miles now.

This coming weekend, Rog & I will be running in the Hospital Hill 5K race in Kansas City and visiting with some of our children on Friday and Saturday.

We had a good visit this past Monday & Tuesday with Phil & Julie and their children. We were able to go walking with most of them sometime while they were here and the grandkids loved it.

TUCKER COUSIN REUNION 2011 - Part 1

For several months we have been planning a cousin reunion with the grandchildren of Otho & Josie Tucker. There are 9 cousins with 6 spouses. It all took place at our home because one of my cousins had requested to have the reunion at "camp gramma".

It began on Friday, May 27th, at noon. There were several meals at our place and all kinds of reminising and storytelling from the past. It was an amazing time of catching up with each other. It was a wonderful reminder of the blessing of having a Christian family with cousins who care for each other. We visited around the table, on the patio, and in our living room.

We concluded the reunion by attending Salina Bible Church and lunch at the Brookville Hotel and a visit to the family home. God gave us a wonderful time together. It went so well that we are planning another one in 2013.

April is done and one-third of the year is passed and I am halfway (504 miles) to the 1000 mile goal. Rog thinks I am a little excessive but I just like to stay on top of things and keep moving. I am grateful that God has given me the health and strength to do it and I look forward to completing the goal. One thing for sure, there is no competition in our family:)

MOM'S ENTERTAINMENT

We have a strange squirrel that just loves sunflower seeds. This squirrel spends hours trying different ways to get to our hanging bird feeder. This supplies endless entertainment for Mom outside her patio door. He is so desperate that he even comes and begs for food. He surely is somewhat bruised from his acrobatic falls. Sometimes he even succeeds in eating from the bird feeder.

TREASURES ON THE STREET

We do walking and running for exercise and it is amazing all the treasures we find on the street. Rog calls it our entertainment while we exercise.

We also pick up aluminum cans while we exercise and today was the day to turn in all that we had collected over the past 6 months and we had 7 bags full of smashed cans. They weighed in at 122 lbs. They paid a premium today because they were helping the girl scouts.

ONWARD TO ONE THOUSAND

This is my calendar for the month of March. We have challenged our family to walk or run 1000 mile in the year 2011. Some have chosen a 500 or 250 mile goal which is a commendable goal as well.

We have had some sickness in the past week so that has slowed us down but we will continue until the end of the year the Lord willing.

My total is 357 miles at the end of March.

OUR NEW MAILBOX

When I went to the kitchen early last Saturday morning, I saw something in the gutter at the end of our drive. Could not figure out what it was and then my eye caught sight of the broken mailbox post. Our neighbor 2 doors down came over and told us that as he let his dog out at midnight, he heard quite a commotion and saw 2 guys in a car going slow and the passenger jumped out and just ran and charged at our mailbox. Said he also slipped on the ice in the gutter and went flat down on his back (Poor guy) but hopped right up and got back in the car and they drove off.

On Monday, Rog & Greg put our new mailbox up. Don & Roberta just happened to have one that they intended to put up but decided not to so they offered it to us.

The post is metal this time so I hope no one tries to take it on.

We needed a new one.

VALENTINE WEEKEND

I think I know where Julie gets her struggle with keeping up with the blog. I'm just as bad so I'm trying to play catch up with a few posts.

We went to Kansas City for the weekend just before Valentines Day and were able to spend time with most of our grandchildren(except for Taylor who was working) and children in the KC area.

We had a great time visiting Dawson and Cooper at their school, Plaza Heights, in the fall when they showed us around their classrooms and had a program for us as well. It was grandparents day and the boys made us feel really special and we were very proud of our grandsons.

Maggie is celebrating birthday # 12 today. Maggie is a beautiful young lady and loves the Lord and is a wonderful model for her 4 year old sister. She is the second oldest of our 11 granddaughters that range from 5 mo. to 16 yrs.

I love opportunities to get together with my grandchildren and have enjoyed special times with Maggie.

Maggie keeps busy with homeschool and helping her Mommy, studies for Bible quizzes and does really well in quizzing and enjoys lots of time with her family.

Roberta and Don have been serving the Lord at RGBI in Texas and have recently been faced with some major health trials. Therefore we have been blessed to have them in Hutchinson much longer than they had planned.

MY WEEKEND WITH MY DAUGHTERS

This past weekend Susan and I traveled up to Kansas City to spend the weekend in the Comfort Suites with Julie, June, and Elisa. We looked forward to this for quite some time and their husbands are so good to let them get away for that time.

We love to talk and catch up on everything that has been going on with each other and then we get to do a lot of shopping. That has never been something I particularly enjoy but I enjoy being with them so that made it more fun. We started off by going to Target to get some snacks for the room. We also enjoy eating at the Olive Garden where we have to keep asking for the next bowl of salad because one bowl was not big enough for 5 of us.(this year we only went through 3 and last time it was 5 so we are doing better:) We also enjoyed the Texas roadhouse and then one evening went out late for chips and salsa which we are pretty good at inhaling as well.

It was a very cold day on Saturday and light blowing snow throughout the day. After shopping most of the day, we went back to the hotel and the girls decided they would go to the hot tub. I didn't think that would do anything for all the eating we were doing so I decided to go exercise and ran on the treadmill.

Later that night when we came out of the restaurant after having chips and salsa, it was blizzard like conditions and snow was starting to accumulate. Sunday noon came entirely too quickly when we needed to part ways and head back to our homes. Julie's car was dead when we went to leave to she and Elisa did a super & quick job of jumping it after some instructions from Phil. I wanted to get a picture because they looked like pros doing it but it was just to cold and they were to quick so we didn't get the camera out soon enough.

We had a great time and God gave Rog & I four wonderful daughters for which I am very thankful. Thank you girls for the time you shared with me and I want you to know how much I love each of you. You are wonderful wives and mommies.

Cooper is seven years old today. He is such a good helper. This last weekend we had a celebration for Great Grandma Tucker's birthday and Cooper was the one that kept straightening chairs, kept enough pieces of cake on the reception table and was always watching to help where he could.

He is in the first grade this year and enjoys school. He loved showing us around when we visited him on grandparents day at school.

LONG OVERDUE PROJECT

This past weekend, two of our sons-in-law headed up a project that was long overdue. You remember that at "camp gramma" time we had an abundance of rain and when that happens, we have water standing in the backyard - therefore we could not have the tents for our grandchildren in the backyard. There is a pipe underground that drains water from our backyard and our neighbor's backyard out to the street in front of our house. It has not been working due to tree roots and dirt plugging it.

Phil & Julie and their children came to see us so that Phil & Greg could help Rog replace the pipe. They did a lot of digging and Owen, Brendon, Caleb, and Trevin helped some too.

There was some cement work to do around the drains so the twins left their mark.

Inside the house Brooklyn, Susan, Julie, and Gramma were making apple dumplings. Brooklyn was enjoying the flour by putting some on the board for me and twice as much on herself. Guess I didn't get a picture of Susan & Julie but they were a big help in getting the job done. We enjoyed the apple dumplings for lunch and even had some left over to freeze. We made 2 big batches and I still have quite a few apples left to make more desserts.

Mom is celebrating her 90th birthday today. We are so thankful that she is able to be here with us. She tries to stay active by walking and getting out and about with us to church and other activities. After all these years, Mom entered one of her quilted wall hangings at our Kansas State Fair. She had much encouragement from her friend Karen Staib to enter something. ST. LOUIS TRAIN TRIP

We were all up early this morning to head for the Union Station in downtown Kansas City. When we arrived at the station, there were lots of people waiting to get on the train. Many were headed for Chicago and St. Louis. At about 7:10 a.m. they called over the loud speaker for our group(neir/susan lanker) to board. It was quite a walk to the last passenger car on the train and we had 26 seats in the back of the train.

We were able to turn the seats around this time and the little ones made their home between the seats. The kids watched movies on the computers and some played games on their computers.

We had a lot of fun on the train and the grandkids were busy all the time. Their favorite place was the snack car and the drinking fountain.

Above we are on our long walk to the motel. It was very hot and and we walked about a quarter of a mile.

BEAUTY SHOP

Today we decided we could not wait any longer. Mom's beautician is in the hospital and so Mom's haircut was cancelled 2 weeks ago and rescheduled for yesterday. We received a call that her beautician was still ill so Mom decided she would take her chances and let me cut it. I used to cut our daughters'(4) hair but have gotten a little rusty but thought I could handle it. I did have to get some new scissors though because the pair I used on the girls chews more than cuts.

We went to a shady spot in the back yard and trimmed enough hair to make a wig for a child. I think Mom was a little worried that I was chopping too much but I assured her it was fine. Then we went inside and shampooed and set. She sits outside for her drying process. Then we combed it out and she looked in the mirror and acted shocked. That of course makes me feel good. Looks pretty nice if I do say so myself.

CAMP GRAMMA 2010 A SUCCESS

Our "Camp Gramma 2010" has come to an end and we had such a wonderful time. Yes, it was wet, wet, wet and looked like a lot of our plans would have to change but we were flexible and made other plans. The boys stayed in the garage at night instead of tents and the girls were in the basement. The boys did not have the luxury of air conditioning but they really didn't complain.

Below is a gym where we took the kids to play the first day. They also went out on a football field and played kick ball and several tried to kick a field goal.

Brooklyn just couldn't last through the evening meeting after all the activity of the day.

The trampoline was used a lot when there was free time in the back yard.

The kids always love the zipline and had to be encouraged to stop.

Every year the grandkids want to go to the bridge over highway 61 & 30th to see how many trucks they can get to honk for them.

We had a few little ones that we really didn't want in the big pool so we had a kiddy pool for them. (do you think they had enough things in it)

On Tuesday morning they went fishing with Grandpa.

Tuesday afternoon we visited a nearby farm and the grandkids were treated to horse riding, wagon rides, feeding the goats, chasing the chickens, and they had snacks for the kids which I think they cleaned up all of them. It was a special time.

Raegan was afraid to ride the horse alone so Gramma rode with her.(It's been 35 years since I was on a horse last)

We visit the Rolling Hills Zoo & Museum near Salina on Wednesday morning.

They had a tram that we rode on all around the zoo.

When we left the zoo, we went into Salina to visit the grave site of Great Grandpa Tucker. The grandkids had lots of questions and wanted to put flowers there.

Then we came back to Hutch and ate dinner and then got the kids ready for church at Berean and they shared some verses and singing for our church family.

We came back to the house after church and had our meeting by the bonfire. Some kids shared and we sang and then closed with prayer. We roasted marshmallows and helped the kids make smores.

It was such a fun time and now camp gramma is over and we are already looking forward to next year.

CAMP GRAMMA PREPARATIONS

Today we had about 3.5 inches of rain and that isn't exactly what we needed just before "camp gramma" so we are working with plan B right now. Our back yard where the tents were going to be is a swamp right now.

We have moved all the vehicles out of the garage and will turn our garage into a dorm for the boys and grandpa. Uncle Roger is bringing some padding for the cement floor to make the boys a little more comfortable. The girls are going to head for the basement.

We were trying to get the pipe cleaned out that drains the water from the back yard and the kids were enjoying sitting in grandpa's truck to watch.

VERY BUSY DAY

Our day started out at 6 a.m. this morning to head for the Sterling Freedom Run to run a 5K. It was a pretty large crowd. Several from our church ran as well(above you can see Josiah, barefoot runner - got first in his age group- Sarah, Anthony and most of the Stange family)

Susan, Brendon, Caleb, and I all survived the muggy weather but we did have fun.

Then we came home and decided we should go check to see how soon the corn would be ready. We discovered that it needed to be taken care of today. So the next 5 hours were spent picking and shucking and silking and cutting and blanching the corn to get it ready to freeze. God gave us about 50 quarts.

Then we finished our day at the Freedom from Darkness prayer meeting.

TWINS ARE TEENAGERS

Today our twin grandsons, Brendon and Caleb, are celebrating their 13th birthday. It's such a blessing to have twin boys in our family. I remember seeing them at their birth - those two 4 lb. boys have become quite the young men today. Brendon and Caleb, we love you and are so grateful for how loving, thoughtful, and appreciative you both are. Trusting that you both have a wonderful birthday.

CELEBRATING FORTY-THREE YEARS

Rog and I celebrated our forty-third anniversary on May 27th. We left on Thursday and spend that day at a bed & breakfast. Then the next day we went on to Kansas City and stayed in a hotel at crown center and had a fine anniversary dinner atop the Weston Hotel on Friday night. On Saturday we celebrated Taylor's high school graduation open house. On Sunday we had lunch with most of our kids and grandkids at the Olive Garden which we all love and then moved on to a park to enjoy some more time visiting. It was very hot but Rog & I joined the grandchildren in playing some volleyball. Later that evening we enjoyed a Memorial Celebration just across from our hotel and had some good music and fireworks. It was a very enjoyable weekend.

OUR OLDEST GRANDCHILD TURNS 18

Today Taylor is celebrating his 18th birthday. On Sunday he will graduate from high school. We were so excited when he was born because he was our first grandchild and we were taking on a new role of grandpa and grandma.

Taylor, we pray that you will love the Lord with all your heart and follow His plan for your life. It has been fun to watch you grow and mature into a young man and we love you and trust you have a special birthday and great year ahead.

We don't get to visit all of our grandchildren's schools but we did get to visit the day that Brendon and Caleb displayed their science projects. Brendon's was about wind power and Caleb's was about electro-magnetics. They had an evening when people came to see them and they could explain their projects. We thought they did a very good job.

OUR FORTY-THIRD ANNIVERSARY

It will be 44 years ago this August that I met Rog, my dear husband to be. We taught school together that year and at the end of the school year, we were married on this day 43 years ago. I had always dreamed of being married and having a dozen children(God in His wisdom reduced it to 6 but they all married and I now have my dozen). God has been so faithful in allowing me to realize that dream. I am so blessed and give God thanks on this 43rd anniversary.

Honey, I love you even more than I did on that day, now so long ago. I look forward to someday growing old together.
